Advent Preaching Series Set

Join BMUMC each Sunday for worship during Advent,  YOUR GIFT TO GOD.

It is easy to focus on the things we expect, hope for and dream about at this season of gift receiving.  It is hard to remember that it is not our birthday!  So....each week we will explore what we can give of ourselves to God to make us aware of the reason we celebrate, the source of our hope and the light that brings hope in the darkness.

Join us starting this Sunday at 10:45 a.m. for Worship.

"Sent" to Be Special Advent Study on Sunday Mornings

SentThis Advent season join us for a special Sunday morning class series based on "Sent".  God sent Christ into the world as our Savior. That’s what Christmas is all about. In turn, Christ sends us into the world. But do we really understand how, where, and why we are sent?

his five-week, church wide Advent study challenges through story, art, and Bible study to discover what it means to be Christ’s hands, feet, head, and heart. Carol Reich will lead this dynamic study. You do not need to buy the book but should you wish to enjoy it here is a link to purchase.

Join with others for this special combined time of study, Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m.   Stop in the Mission Bistro (downstairs; accessible via elevator or stairs)  from 9:15 to 9:45 for coffee and conversation.

Storm In A Coffeecup?

Source: Methodist Memes
The recent controversy over the decision by a mega restaurant change in their holiday cups has been labeled a non-issue all the way to an all out war on Christianity.  Perhaps it is a wake-up call (no pun intended) for all Christians to reconsider what Christmas has become, to sort out the cultural trappings and reveal the deep significance this time has for Christ followers.  For anyone interested in rediscovering the true meaning of Christmas, this book is an eye-opening look at just that. Christmas is Not Your Birthday by Mike Slaughter.

"Every year, we say we’re going to cut back, simplify, and have a family Christmas that focuses on the real reason for the season―Jesus. But every year, advertisements beckon, the children plead, and it seems easier just to indulge our wants and whims. Overspending, overeating, materialism, and busyness rob us of our peace and joy and rob Jesus of his rightful role as the center of our celebration.

This Christmas, cut through the hype that leaves you exhausted and broke at the end of the year. Instead, experience the peace of knowing that God is truly with us, the joy of giving sacrificially, and the love of a Savior who gave everything he had for us. In five short, engaging chapters, Pastor Mike Slaughter inspires readers to approach Christmas differently, and be transformed in the process"
